Appointments--Office Hours

I look forward to talking to each of you about our philosophy course. You are warmly encouraged to stop by my office to discuss tutorial lectures, papers, ideas, or problems. If the stated office hours do not fit your schedule, other times can be arranged. ``Online office hours'' via Philosophy Chat will be announced on the Homepage of your WebCT course. For questions about course content and course procedures use the Philosophy Server's mwforum Discussion Board. You will need to register for this Discussion Board according to the instructions given in ``Section 3.5 mwforumMessage Board on the Philosophy Server'' below.

Email and Discussion Protocol

If you have a personal question, concern, or problem, email your instructor at the first opportunity. If you have questions about class procedures (class policies, homework problems, class requirements, grading, assignments, or other housekeeping matters), post online to the mwforum Discussion Board. If you have questions about class content (philosophical concepts, conceptual questions, or understanding the subject-matter of philosophy), also post to the mwforum Discussion Board. The Philosophy Server's mwforum Discussion Board is additionally used toward the end of the semester for philosophy papers and comments on philosophy papers. The WebCT Discussion List is not used in this class; its interface is too slow and clumsy for effective use. The WebCT email also will not be used in this class. Regular email is more efficient and flexible.

Logic Lab

A small Logic Lab in LC M33 consisting of three networked computers is open to all philosophy students during office hours stated above. Students are encouraged to stop by the Lab to set up email accounts, practice with online quizzes and tests, check lecture notes and tutorials, read the WebCT Discussion List, mwforum Message Boards, or research philosophical topics on the Internet. Unfortunately, there is no printer at this location.

General Education Core Requirements

Note especially: Although Philosophy 102 Introduction to Philosophy fulfills the General Education Core Curriculum Requirement for Humanities, this course does not fulfill the requirement for Logical and Analytical Thought. If you are seeking to fulfill the Logical and Analytical Thought requirement by registering for a philosophy course, you need to enroll in Philosophy 103: Introduction to Logic.
